I have just finished Elizabeth I and will be exploring where to go next. For a long time I have been wanting to write about the Emperor Nero, an absolutely intriguing character. It was during his reign that Boudicca led the uprising against the Romans in Britain, and it might be good to do a double biography of them, since they were adversaries. I’ve also thought about Edgar Allan Poe, with whom I have a strong affinity. Other ideas include something set in the Orkney Islands (the standing stones fascinated me). And just lately someone suggested Queen Lili’uokalani, the last queen of Hawaii. I seem to be drawn to people who are the last of their kind, or dynasty, or era.
My co-author and I are working on a sequel—or, more accurately, a prequel—to Lucille Lost that will be the story of Old Tortoise.
